Diabeetus ( Diabetes)

Alright, So Paula Deen has announced to day that she has been living with Type 2 Diabetes for several years, but didnt want to come forward with it until she was able to capitalize off of it, “bring something different to the table.” Hmm….. A woman that cooks wit loads of butter, sugar, and oil has Diabetes…. NO WAY! (*insert sarcasm*) I can remember my first encounter with Paula Deen’s cooking when a young lady brought some of her chocolate butter bars to class one time for us to eat. MAN, those things were soooooo, good! But when my classmate, started telling us about how she looked at the recipe and was in disbelief at the amount of sugar and butter used to make them, I started to cringe. What the hell did I just stuff into my mouth? Well, A bar of chocolate butter, just as the name “chocolate butter bar” implies. *FAIL*

Diabetes is not new to me, as some of the people nearest and dearest to me suffer with it and have to constantly watch their sugar intake. My mom always tells me that my stomach is too fat, which could lead to Diabetes. I think I might have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, or Syndrome X while I was in Undergrad, but never really took it serious. The clinic doctor at the time put me on a Mediterranean diet, which I must admit, piqued my interest for a short while, then it was back to cookies and syrupy drinks. My mom also loves to randomly test my blood sugar, but it is always normal. Hopefully, this new direction that I’m going in will help to alleviate my problems and syndrome x diagnosis.  I keep saying I want to look at the glycemic index and understand how it can help me to manage better. I’ll look into that soon!
